Menu

The "Menu" content element automatically generates lists of links to internal pages. It can be used to create a sitemap, a section index, or a custom list of selected pages. TYPO3 provides 12 menu types, allowing you to display page links in various ways to suit your requirements.

Creating a menu element

  1. Create a new content element of type "Menu" (from the Menu content element group).
  2. Select the desired menu type.
  3. Configure the menu according to the selected type (available options vary by menu type).
  4. Save your changes.

The 12 menu types

Abstracts

Creates a list of links to subpages, including their page descriptions (taken from the page properties). This menu type is ideal for overview pages that automatically provide links and short descriptions of their subordinate pages.

Categorized content

Generates links to content elements that are assigned to a specific category.

Prerequisite: The content elements must be categorized and contain a title in the Header field.

Categorized pages

Lists the pages that have been assigned to a specific category in their page properties.

Pages

Allows the manual selection of individual pages. Only active (not hidden) pages are displayed and can be selected.

Subpages

Automatically lists all direct subpages of one or more selected parent pages.

Recently updated pages

Displays the up to 10 most recently modified subpages, making it particularly useful for news-style overviews or sections that highlight recent updates.

Related pages

Generates a keyword-based list of links by displaying pages that use the same keywords as the current page.

Section index

Creates a list of the content elements on a specific page based on their Header fields. This is particularly useful for generating an automatic table of contents.

Section index of subpages from selected pages

Combines links to subpages and content elements within a hierarchical structure.

Sitemap

Automatically generates a complete site map of the website, displaying all pages except those that are hidden or disabled.

Sitemaps of selected pages

Lists all levels of subpages beneath the selected parent page(s).
