TUMvCard

The TUMvCard extension displays the contact card of an individual from TUMonline on your TYPO3 page, including their photo, contact details, and position/function.

Requirements: Privacy & public TUMonline profile

Please observe data protection regulations: Ensure that all applicable privacy requirements are met before embedding a TUMvCard. These requirements apply not only to TUM employees but are especially important when displaying information about students.

The contact card is displayed only if the person's TUMonline profile is enabled for anonymous access.

How to check whether a profile is public:

  1. Log out of TUMonline (or use an incognito/private browser window).
  2. Search for the person in TUMonline.
  3. If the person can be found, the profile is public.
  4. If the person cannot be found, the profile is not public, and the person must adjust their privacy settings in TUMonline.

If the photo is missing:

Check in TUMonline whether the "Always display business card photo" option is enabled.

Content

  • Preparation: finding the Person ID in TUMonline
  • Adding TUMvCard - step by step
  • Choosing a layout ("Template" tab)
  • Forcing an immediate update
  • English version of the TUMvCard - step by step
  • Placing TUMvCards side by side
  • Combining TUMvCard with TUM MemberList
  • Examples

Preparation: finding the Person ID in TUMonline

  1. Open TUMonline and search for the person.
  2. Open their profile.
  3. Note down the Person ID from the URL or the profile data.

You will need this Person ID in the next step when adding the plugin.

Adding TUMvCard - step by step

  1. Open the Page module and select the target page.
  2. Click “+ Content” → group “Special” → “Insert Plugin”.
  3. In the "Plugin" field, select "TUMvCard".
  4. Enter the previously noted Person ID in the corresponding field.
  5. Save the element.

Choosing a layout ("Template" tab)

In the “Template” tab, you define how the business card looks on the website:

LayoutAppearance
Layout 1 (default)larger, more detailed display
Layout 2 (small)compact variant, e.g. for sidebars

You can also select additional information fields to display - these are shown only if the person has entered the corresponding data in TUMonline.

Forcing an immediate update

Changes to a person's TUMonline data are not immediately visible on the website. By default, the data is automatically reloaded from TUMonline every 10 days.

To make a change visible immediately:

  1. Open the page containing the TUMvCard element in the backend.
  2. Click the lightning-bolt "Clear cache" icon in the top-right toolbar.
  3. Reload the page on the website - the updated data will now be fetched from TUMonline.

English version of the TUMvCard - step by step

Like any other content element, the TUMvCard element must also be translated for the English page. The general workflow is described on the page “English version”:

  1. In the Page module, switch to the "Languages view".
  2. Click "Translate" on the TUMvCard element.
  3. The English copy automatically inherits the Person ID and layout - there is nothing further to translate, since TUMvCard content comes directly from TUMonline.
  4. Enable the English element (turn on visibility).
  5. Save.

Note

Since TUMvCard has no text fields of its own to translate, it is usually enough to enable the translated element - no further text changes needed.

Placing TUMvCards side by side

To arrange several TUMvCard elements next to each other - with or without a border - use the multi-column content container. The steps are described in the instructions for “Multi-column content”.

Combining TUMvCard with TUM MemberList

If the same person is embedded via TUMvCard on several pages and should also appear in a TUM MemberList, an additional link is required so the MemberList links to the correct TUMvCard:

  1. Open the TUM MemberList plugin and select “PAGE:TUMvCard-xxx” (xxx = the running number of the respective TUMvCard) in the "Category" field.
  2. Open the page properties of the page containing the relevant TUMvCard.
  3. Assign the same category, “PAGE:TUMvCard-xxx”, there as well.
  4. Save both changes.
