Predefined permission groups
There are three main permission groups, and each of the following roles defines a general permission:
- Editor (role-W00XXX-redakteur-[shortname]): Can create, edit, or delete content elements for all pages of the website.
- Manager (role-W00XXX-manager-[shortname]): Can create, edit, or delete pages and content elements throughout the entire website.
- Group delegation (gd-W00XXX--[shortname]): Permissions for registered users can be managed through group delegation.
Please note that group delegation can only be granted by the TYPO3 team.
Additionally, there are roles that expand the general permission with specific functions:
- fp: Access to the "functional pages" (e.g., Imprint, Contact area)
- news: There is a separate permission group for using the TYPO3 extension News.
This permission is an addition to Editor or Manager roles.
- Read-only (role-W00XXX-readonly-[shortname]): If needed, a special role with read-only rights can be configured. This is not set up by default. If you require such a role for your website (e.g., to access the preview function without editor rights), please contact the TYPO3 team.
Note
If a user is assigned the Manager permission group, they do not need the Editor permission group. The Manager permission group includes all the rights of the Editor group.
The Editor-in-chief
Editors-in-chief manage group membership using the “Groupdelegation” function. With this function, you can assign or remove predefined permission groups for registered users. You cannot define individual permissions or create new users.
Editors-in-chief also have access to the Recycler. When a page or content element is deleted in the backend, it is initially just marked and disappears from your view. Content is permanently deleted only after 400 days through an automatic process. Until then, the editorial team can restore the content.
Note
For each TYPO3 website, typically two editors-in-chief are appointed with the function “Groupdelegation”. They are the main responsible persons for the website and our contacts for all technical matters. If there is a change in this regard, the “Groupdelegation” can only be transferred by the TYPO3 team.
Before submitting a request to the TYPO3 team, please discuss your issue with your editor-in-chief. Many inquiries can be resolved more easily and quickly this way.
