Registration and login

You can access the TYPO3 backend of TUM by appending “/typo3” to the URL of your website:

URL type	Example
Subdomain website	www.[website].tum.de/typo3/
Section page	www.[section].[school].tum.de/typo3/

First-time access: Registration

If you do not yet have backend access, you need to register once.

How to register:

Open the backend URL of your website
You will be redirected to the TUM login page
Log in using your TUM ID or your TUM email address (“@tum.de” or “@mytum.de”) and your password
During your first login, your transferred personal data will be displayed—confirm the transfer
You will receive a notification that your account is awaiting approval

Important

For Users: Access is not possible without approval from an editor-in-chief. Please contact the editor-in-chief of your website directly.

For Editors-in-Chief: Instructions on how to approve newly created accounts (after successful registration) can be found under “Groupdelegation.”

Regular Login

If your account has already been approved:

Open the backend URL
You will be redirected to the TUM login page
Log in using your TUM ID and your password
You will be taken directly to the backend

Note

If you are already logged in to TUM in your browser (Single Sign-On), you will often be taken directly to the backend without needing to enter your password again.

Technical background: Shibboleth Single Sign-On

The TYPO3 instances at TUM use the central Shibboleth Single Sign-On system.

There are no separate TYPO3 passwords – your TUM password is the only credential required
Access is restricted to TUM members only (staff and students)

Hints

Important:
Log in using your full TUM email address or your TUM ID — not a shortened username.

Tip:
If you experience login issues, first contact your editorial team. Many problems can be resolved by reactivating your account.
