Page types

The Page type determines how a page appears in the frontend menu and what content it can display. You select the page type when creating a new page.

Page types overview

  • Default page
  • Shortcut (Redirect)
  • External url
  • Folder
  • Summary

Default page

The most commonly used page type.

  • Appears in the frontend navigation menu
  • Can contain any number of content elements
  • Is accessible via a direct link

Hint

If you are unsure which page type to choose, the default page is the right choice in most cases.

Shortcut (Redirect)

A shortcut page automatically redirects visitors to another page within the website.

Typical use case: A menu item (e.g., “News”) does not contain its own content but should appear in the menu and directly link to the first subpage (e.g., “News 2026”).

How to set up a shortcut:

  1. Create a new page and select Shortcut as the type
  2. Open the page properties
  3. In the General tab, choose the redirect target

External url

This page type allows you to integrate an external link into the navigation menu.

  • The page appears in the menu with a special icon
  • Clicking it redirects visitors directly to the external website

Example use case: A direct link to the TUM homepage in the website’s menu.

Folder

The folder type does not appear in the frontend navigation menu and cannot be accessed directly.

What are folders used for?

  • Storing news articles
  • Managing records that should not appear in the menu
  • Structuring internal content in the backend

Hint

In the page tree, you can recognize folders by the folder icon instead of the regular page icon.
