What functions and extensions are available?

You can find information about extensions and functions on our "Offer" page.

How is accessibility implemented?

Website accessibility is ensured in part through the template, which we, as the TYPO3 team, have largely implemented. Additionally, it is the editors' responsibility to create the pages in an accessible manner.

Quick reference on the topic of accessibility

How can I change the name of the institution in the header of the website?

The institution's name (e.g., the department) is displayed in the website header. This name matches the one found in TUMonline and can only be changed by the TYPO3 team.

If you wish to make a change at this point, please first enter the new name in TUMonline, then contact us. Only after that can the TYPO3 team update the website name.

How can I change the website title?

The website title appears, for example, in the browser window or tab title, in bookmarks, and in search engine result lists. The page name (as set up in the backend) is placed before, and your organisation's name is appended to the end of each page title.

The right part next to the hyphen can only be changed by the TYPO3 team. Please let us know what it should say.

How can I edit the pages policy, imprint, accessibility?

The content of these pages is centrally implemented and managed by the TYPO3 team. Access for editors cannot be granted. Learn more about this on our "Legal matters" page.

How can I edit the contact information in the right column?

This content element is created once and then automatically appears on all pages where the right column is displayed. You can find out how to make changes on the "Contact area" page.

Can I embed content using an iframe?

If you want to embed external content in your website using an iframe, the "iframe with consent" extension is available to you.

Can I embed social media feeds?

Currently, you can only link to your social media channels. Whether it will also be possible to embed social media feeds via iframe in the future is being evaluated.

Currently supported are LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, Facebook, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter).

Can I create and embed forms?

For events, conferences, and meetings, use www.events.tum.de.

For general forms and registrations, the form plugin "Confiforms" is available in the TUM Wiki.

Can I protect certain areas with a password?

Within TUM, there are various systems you can use to create password-protected information. For this reason, we do not offer password protection on TYPO3 websites.

  • For files that you want to store with password protection, you can use LRZ Sync+Share, the NAS-Filer from LRZ, or TUM Wiki.
  • For pages and content that you want to protect with a password, TUM Wiki is available for you.

Why are my changes or newly added content not visible in the frontend?

TYPO3 uses a cache to deliver pages more quickly. As a result, changes may not always be visible immediately. In many cases, the page will update automatically after a short time.

What should I do if the content is not updating?

You can clear the page cache manually:

  1. Open the affected page in the backend.
  2. Click the lightning bolt icon ("Clear Cache") in the top menu.
  3. Select "Clear Page Cache" or "Clear All Caches".

Manually clearing the cache is especially helpful when new content doesn’t show up, deleted content still appears, or dynamic content, such as publication lists, isn’t being updated.

Note on automatic content (e.g., media/publication lists)

Some plugins retrieve their data from external sources and refresh only at specific intervals. With CurlContent (for example, publication lists from mediaTUM), the data is fetched by default every 10 days. Newly added publications will therefore only appear automatically after this period has elapsed. If an immediate update is required, you can manually clear the cache of the affected page. For further information, please refer to the Caching CurlContent documentation.
