Entries from FSMB databases

This page describes the specific procedure for integrating entries from the Faculty Student Council of Mechanical Engineering (FSMB) databases into a TYPO3 page using the CurlContent extension.

Available databases

The FSMB provides two databases:

• BaSaMa – Bachelor’s, seminar, and master’s theses
• HiWi – Student assistant positions

The integrated entries each link to the corresponding detailed information on the Faculty Student Council’s website.

Preparation: Determine your chair abbreviation

Identify the abbreviation of your chair/institute as it is registered on the FSMB website (for example, "lcc").

You will need this abbreviation in the next step when configuring and embedding the plugin.

Embedding FSMB entries - step by step

1. Open the Page module and select the target page.
2. Click “+ Create new content” → “Special Elements” → “Insert Plugin”.
3. In the “Plugin” field, select “CurlContent”.
4. In the “Data source” tab, choose “FS Maschinenbau: BaSaMa database, Mixed Language (chair node)” under “URL preset”.

5. In “Parameters for preset”, enter your chair abbreviation.

   For HiWi database entries, append ,hiwi to the abbreviation (example: lcc,hiwi).

6. In the “Processing” tab, select “FSMB databases (BaSaMa, HiWi)” under “XSL File”.
7. Save the content element.

Additional option: XSL parameter

In the “Parameters for this XSL file” field, the following parameter is available:

Parameter	Description	Default
detail	Controls how the entries are linked: • no – no link is generated • fsmb – links to the corresponding page on the FSMB website • fsmb+ – links to the corresponding page on the FSMB website and opens the link in a new tab/window	fsmb

Update caching

As with all CurlContent applications, the data is automatically refreshed from the FSMB database every 10 days by default.

To force an immediate update, use the lightning bolt icon (“Clear cache for this page”). This clears the page cache and immediately retrieves the latest publication data from mediaTUM.

English version

The CurlContent element must also be translated for the English page, just like any other content element.

1. In the Page module, switch to the Languages view.
2. Click “Translate” for the CurlContent element.
3. The English copy automatically inherits the Chair abbreviation and parameters. No further translation is required, as the examination dates are retrieved directly from TUMonline.
4. Enable the English element (turn its visibility on).
